Therapy for Students & Early-Career Professionals
Online therapy for college students, graduate students, medical students, student athletes, young adults, and early-career professionals throughout New Jersey.
Navigating school, career decisions, relationships, and the transition into adulthood can bring anxiety, stress, burnout, and uncertainty about the future. Whether you're working toward a degree, entering a trade, beginning your career, or exploring a path outside higher education, therapy can offer space to make sense of your experiences and move forward with greater intention.
I'm William Zarillo, Ed.D., LCSW, founder of Storia Therapy. Since 2017, I've worked in higher education supporting students through anxiety, trauma, identity exploration, academic pressure, and major life transitions. My clinical and academic experience informs an approach that recognizes how personal challenges are often shaped by the environments, expectations, and systems we navigate.
My Approach
Common Concerns
Students and young professionals seek therapy for many reasons, including anxiety, stress, academic burnout, perfectionism, procrastination, fear of failure, impostor syndrome, performance anxiety, identity exploration, self-esteem, belonging, depression, trauma, difficult life experiences, career uncertainty, major life transitions, family expectations, relationship challenges, pressure to succeed academically, professionally, or athletically, institutional betrayal, disillusionment, and feeling stuck or directionless despite doing everything “right.”
These concerns can overlap. Therapy provides space to understand what is happening, identify patterns, and consider what support would be most useful.
How Therapy Helps
My approach draws from narrative therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and other evidence-based practices. Rather than focusing only on symptom relief, therapy creates space to understand the stories, relationships, expectations, and experiences shaping your life.
In therapy, I can support you in managing anxiety and overwhelm, navigating perfectionism and performance pressure, exploring identity and values beyond achievement, processing difficult experiences, building confidence and self-compassion, strengthening a sense of belonging, approaching transitions with greater intention, and making decisions that reflect your values and the life you want to build.
Storia Therapy offers a collaborative, thoughtful space to slow down, ask better questions, and move forward with greater clarity.
Who I Work With
I provide virtual therapy for students, young adults, and early-career professionals throughout New Jersey, including college and university students, graduate and doctoral students, medical, dental, and other professional students, college athletes and student leaders, trade and vocational students, apprentices, young adults pursuing paths outside higher education, first-generation and underrepresented students, recent graduates, early-career professionals, and high school students preparing for adulthood.
My work supports people navigating academic stress, relationships, identity, independence, research demands, rigorous training, clinical responsibilities, performance pressure, career decisions, workplace stress, belonging, family expectations, and questions about purpose or direction.
Finding the Right Support Beyond Campus
College and university counseling centers can be valuable resources for students seeking mental health support. At the same time, some students may benefit from exploring therapy outside their school, whether they're looking for ongoing support, greater flexibility, or a therapeutic relationship that continues beyond graduation.
Private therapy may be worth considering if you're looking for continuity across semesters, academic breaks, graduation, and career transitions; seeking support beyond academic concerns such as family, relationships, trauma, or identity; needing appointment options that fit around classes, clinical rotations, internships, athletics, or work; wanting a space outside your institution; or exploring longer-term therapy at a pace that reflects your needs rather than an academic calendar.
Whether you're currently receiving support through a campus counseling center, considering therapy for the first time, or looking to transition to a community provider, finding the right therapeutic fit matters. At Storia Therapy, I offer virtual therapy throughout New Jersey, creating space to explore not only the challenges of student life, but the broader experiences and stories that shape who you are.
Common areas of support include academic stress, anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, identity, belonging, trauma, career transitions, relationships, and pressure to succeed academically, professionally, or athletically.
